Two years after experiencing a nervous breakdown, Duval, an unemployed man in his fifties, is struggling to find work. Contacted by an enigmatic businessman linked to a distant acquaintance, Duval is offered a well-paid job: transcribing phone-tapped conversations using a typewriter — but he has to promise not to breathe a word about what he’s doing to anyone.
This seemingly innocuous work will lead him, in spite of himself, to the heart of an intricate plot involving the French secret service and the highest spheres of power.
