About Magic Lantern Theatres and Rainbow Cinemas
Magic Lantern Theatres was founded in 1984 in Edmonton, Alberta. They have locations in Edmonton, Peace River, St. Paul, Whitecourt, Fort Saskatchewan, Saskatoon and Cobourg, Ontario.
Rainbow Cinemas was founded in the 1990s in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with locations in Saskatoon, Regina and Cobourg (Ontario).
Magic Lantern Theatres and Rainbow Cinemas merged and their head office is in Edmonton. Combined, they own 10 theatres. They originally showed movies that were no longer screening at major theatre chains at discounted ticket prices, but with the current quick turnover for most movies from theatre to home release, some of these theatres now show first run movies. They also are known for showing first-run indie Canadian films, as well as foreign features.
Magic Lantern Theatres re-opened the Capitol Theatre in North Battleford, SK, in June 2017.
