Director Doug Liman discusses what he loved about American Made and what gripped him from reading the script. He draws similarities from the film’s true story to his own experiences with his father who investigated similar events. He goes on to talk about how he brought in humor to the film from his father’s work as an investigator. Doug then discusses working with Tom Cruise, how incredible a pilot he is and how it works so well for this film. Finally, Doug mentions why he was drawn to the character of Barry Seal, who he describes as a lovable anti-hero.
