James McAvoy recalls his first meeting with M. Night Shyamalan about their new thriller Split, confessing that the director actually refused to tell him his character's name – for good reason. After describing his first time reading the film’s "confounding" script, the actor then discusses the challenges of playing several different characters in one story. Of Shyamalan, James calls the filmmaker "collaborative" and "giving," and also goes into detail about his well-known perfectionism. Of his all-female co-stars, he calls them all “incredible women,” but admits he was afraid of being “outnumbered.”
