Actress Li Bing Bing was thrilled and honored when she found out she was going to star in the film version of the best-selling novel, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Set in 19th century China, the story centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women.

Tribute spoke with Li and producer Wendi Murdoch about shooting on location in China and transforming the popular book for the big screen.
