plays the lead in
the new film Some Things That Stay, about a girl who has to grow up
quickly when her mother is diagnosed with a potentially terminal illness. Teen
Tribute spoke with Boland as she waited for a flight to Sudbury, where
she's portraying Shania Twain's sister in a new CBC biopic about the
singer.
Congratulations
on your new role in the Shania Twain movie.
K.B. Yeah, I'm a big fan of Shania.
Is it fun
traveling to different places?
K.B. Oh, it's lots of fun. It's a really great role and it's a
really great project so it's tons of fun. And I get to miss school. Yay!
How did you get
started in acting?
K.B. I was born knowing that I wanted to be an actress and I would
always ask my mom (director Gail Harvey) and she wouldn't let me. Because
she was in the business she saw how difficult it was. So finally, when I
was eight, I convinced her and she let me do it. We were just going to see
what happened and it worked out really well. My first role was in a CBS
mini-series called The Third Twin.
How many
auditions do you go to?
K.B. It really varies depending on the time of year, because
there's a busy season and a slow season in Canada. I would say I probably
do two a week.
Have you ever
turned down a script?
K.B. No, I don't think so. I've said no to auditioning if it's
similar to something I've done before or if the timing isn't going to work
out. But I've never said no to anyone giving me a part because I think if
you have an opportunity you should take advantage of it.
Now that you
also have a manager in Los Angeles, how much time do you spend there?
K.B. I'm planning to go for pilot season [when the networks make a
bunch of TV pilots], which is from February through April. So I'm aiming
to spend three months there, but with school that gets difficult.
Do you feel
you've ever missed out on things your friends are doing because you had to
work?
K.B. It's kind of like a catch-22 because when you're at school,
you miss acting and when you're acting, you wonder how your friends are
doing at school. But it's been really great, opportunity-wise, and I've
learned so much and experienced
so much.
Which actor or
actress would you really like to meet or work with?
K.B. Johnny Depp or Julianne Moore.
Which actor or
actress that you've worked with has left the biggest impression on you?
K.B. Kirstie Alley is such a fabulous woman and she really helped
me a lot with acting. Shirley MacLaine was also really nice.
What's the most
challenging role you've ever played?
K.B. I would say Tamara in Some Things That Stay was the
most challenging.
