Catherine Zeta-Jones
o where is the latest hotspot for meeting and greeting movie stars? It seems the place to be is Indigo Books on Bloor. At least it has been most recently. Hundreds of fans packed the place to catch a glimpse of Catherine Zeta-Jones (currently in Toronto filming Chicago), her hubby Michael Douglas and his movie star dad Kirk. The senior Douglas was in town to promote his autobiography My Stroke Of Luck. The crowd waited several hours for the big moment and evidently it was worth the wait. Michael Douglas shed tears as he began to introduce his father. "I'm so proud of the old man," he said. Kirk survived a helicopter crash several years ago where two people were killed. A couple of years later he suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed. His eighth book chronicles the Hollywood legend's road to recovery.

Indigo was the scene of another mob fest when Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall stopped by the store. The Canadian actress who plays sex diva Samantha Jones on the hit TV series was here to promote a book she co-authored with her husband entitled Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm. The bestseller is a "how to" manual for the sexually unfulfilled.
Maybe her TV persona is not all that farfetched after all. Cattrall graciously signed copies of the book to a mostly female fan base.

And who was that dark haired, leather clad fellow strolling through the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel? It was none other than KISS bassist Gene Simmons, sans make-up and costume. The musician turned author was in town to (surprise, surprise) promote his new autobiography KISS and Make-Up. If you think Kim Cattrall's book is risqué, wait until you read this one. The notorious womanizer says he has slept with 4,600 women. Yow!

Renée Zellweger  Richard Gere is having a blast shooting the musical Chicago in Toronto along with co-stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger and Queen Latifah. "We are having a great time," he says. "People are going to be stunned at how well everyone sings and dances. Even me!"

If you think you were seeing double on the streets of downtown Toronto you probably saw the Olsen twins. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, best known for sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on the TV series Full House, swept through town to promote their new clothing line. For those of you dying to check it out, the line is available exclusively at Wal-Mart.

And while Hollywood is gearing up for Oscar night, Hollywood North held their own soiree to celebrate the best in Canadian Cinema. Among some of the attendees at the 22nd annual Genie Awards, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre were Mimi Kuzyk, Sarah Polley, Atom Egoyan, Don McKellar, Jessica Paré and Paul Gross.

Colin Farrellctor Colin Farrell was pubbing it up in Toronto during his shoot for the next Al Pacino feature, The Farm. During his Canadian sojourn, the Dublin born Farrell said he enjoyed hogtown's pubs, especially the cozier bars like student-heavy Madison and Quail & Firkin.

The Farm portrays the clandestine CIA training ground in Camp Peary, Virginia, and the unraveling of a suspected mole in the facility. Farrell plays a young CIA-to-be who is trained by Pacino.

During the day's shoot in Norval, Ontario, a 30-minute jaunt from the city, 200 under-25 and oh-so-beautiful extras spent the day at the Nashville North dance club. Busting their booties to Wide Mouth Mason, the Canadian-bred band will also appear in the film.

The 25-year-old Farrell was last seen with Bruce Willis in Hart's War, and many have already labeled him as the new Brad Pitt. His charms, talent and good looks inked him on tinseltown's most wanted list and he will star in Steven Spielberg's Minority Report as a time cop hunting down Tom Cruise for a crime he has yet to commit.

So what does the actor think about overnight success? "I've had such fookin' good fortune. I've been at the right place at the right time, and had a lot of good breaks. I guess that's the way the stars align. I work as really hard as I can, and never take any shortcuts." He attributes his well-deserved fortune to director Joel Schumacher, who cast the Irish lad as a private in the Vietnam war epic Tigerland, which premiered in Toronto two years ago, and in the psychological brain-twister Phone Booth, that's yet to be released. Farrell, who recently broke up with wife, actress Amelia Warner, isn't prowling the dating scene but is taking it easy and concentrating on his career.
