Dear Tribute,
With regard to the writeup on the book Is That A
Gun in Your Pocket: Women's Experience in Hollywood
(July 2000), I was appalled when I read what the writer cited as girl-empowerment films.
First of all, Elizabeth features a much stronger female character than the one in Shakespeare in Love. But more grossly cited was Notting Hill and Runaway Bride. Are you kidding me ? Not only are they both Julia Roberts vehicles (who is in no way a role model to begin with), but the plotlines themselves don't send any empowering messages whatsoever. (If Erin Brockovich had been referred to, I could at least half-heartedly agree.)
One centers around a woman who can't commit and the other focuses on an actress who just wants
"a boy to love her."
Both are typical Hollywood portrayals of women: neurotic and hungry for love. Girl-empowering my ass.
P.S. And to the guy who wrote in asking about Molly, Elisabeth Shue's performance was abhorrent. Rent at your own risk.

Dear Tribute,
My daughter and I see one to two movies each weekend and we always read your fantastic magazine. We also love Marilyn Denis and her column, Hollywood Hotline. But Marilyn, you made an error in the July issue. Sadie Frost, who is married to Jude Law, was not known here for her work in Interview With The Vampire, but in Dracula.
I know both movies extensively as I have them both and have watched each over 50 times. We love you guys...keep up the great work.

Dear Tribute,
I enjoy your magazine when I attend a movie at the Cineplex Odeon in downtown London. I noted an error in your reporting (On Location, September). Prince Edward is uncle to Princes William and Harry. Therefore the article should have read: "unlike his camera-shy nephews," not "cousins."

Dear Tribute,
In Tribute Trivia, September, you have a question about what type of children Ernest has to deal with in Ernest Goes to Camp. And, of course, the answer would obviously be "juvenile criminals" (Answer A) and not "nerds" (Answer B), which happens to be the answer you have listed as correct.
I suggest you travel to your nearest three dollar bargain bin, buy it and stand yourselves corrected.
