NHL 2004
EA Sports; for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC, $59.99

It's "Game on!" for EA Sports' hard-hitting sequel to the best-selling NHL franchise in video game history. Naturally, "NHL 2004" includes all the teams, players and arenas you'd expect from a pro hockey simulation, but new to this year's version is a greatly improved control scheme that allows players to better deke out opponents and engage in on-ice fisticuffs. Other features include an enhanced "Dynasty" mode as a team's General Manager, three new international elite leagues, all-new commentary from Craig Simpson, smoother animations, new music and
on-line play for the PlayStation 2 and PC versions.

CoolPix SQ
Nikon, $649.99

Shutterbugs, take notice. Arguably the funkiest gadget this fall is the aptly-named CoolPix SQ - a 3 megapixel camera that combines a sleek all-metal exterior design with a unique swivel lens (perfect for self-portraits!). But there's some substance to go along with its style - the latest "digicam" from Nikon also features a 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom, a continuous shooting mode to take several pictures in rapid sequence and the ability to record short video clips with sound. The "Cool Station" cradle (included in the box) recharges the unit and with
the push of a button, uploads images to your PC.  Available in stores across Canada.
