Canada's first and only International Horror Film Festival, Cinemuerte is the result of one woman's passion for film, coupled with an irrepressible personality. With no prior experience and little money, Kier-La Janisse has created a yearly nine-day celebration of films selected to "corrupt your mind and assault your senses".
Celluloid Horror explores Kier-La Janisse's compulsion to entice others into at least considering her views, as it documents her most exemplary achievements. The local media chooses to ignore Cinemuerte, which receives no corporate sponsorship and no government money, making Kier-La's feat all the more rewarding!
With appearances by Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein), Jorg Buttgereit (Nekromantic), Jeff Lieberman (Squirm), Buddy Giovinazzo (Combat Shock) and Jean Rollin (Requiem for a Vampire), and bloody clips from over three years of Kier-La's unique programming.
You're invited to spend 91 minutes in the company of the woman Vancouver's alternative weekly, The Loop, declared one of the city's "Most Dangerous" people as she struggles to propel Cinemuerte toward greater acceptance without sacrificing its integrity (or hers).
