Fabricating Tom Zé is a documentary that sketches a consistent portrait of this controversial Brazilian musician, Tom Zé, as we follow him through a myriad of European cities in his 2005 international tour. Tom Zé narrates his early childhood, how he went to Sao Paulo to participate in the Tropicalia movement, his downfall in the '70s and his consequent rediscovery by David Byrne in the '90s.

Tom Zé's testimonies are complemented by interviews with such personalities as David Byrne, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. He is presented in peculiar situations such as him working as a gardener. Fabricating Tom Zé presents a musician that has never compromised his art and, despite his age, he continues to produce highly original music.
