A toque monkey named Maya is part of a troupe of monkeys that live in Sri Lanka. The troupe has a hierarchy and Maya is at the bottom. She and the other lower-ranking monkeys scour the vicinity for food and a safe place to sleep at night.

When a single male monkey tries to join the troupe, he's chased off, but not before he makes a connection with Maya, resulting in a newborn several months later. He returns and helps her raise the infant.

Their struggle to live a secure and safe life within the ranks of the animal kingdom are well documented and shed light onto the lives of wild monkeys.

  • 5 stars "This is truly a great documentary. However if you are planning on bringing small children (my grandson is 5), they won't like it. One third into the movie he was asking when if would be over. This would be great for 10 and up. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought some parents might find this helpful."
