Québec is one of the greatest cinematic cultures of the modern world. Anglo Canadians -- especially cinephiles and filmmakers - should pay very close attention to Québec and its cinematic output.
For as English Canadian cinema continues to stumble blindly along trying to contrive some sort of "cultural tradition" for itself, Québec soars light years ahead with a cinema that is honest, visionary, singular and even commercially viable.
Short films rarely draw big crowds, but organizer Danny Lennon's amazing short film series, Prends ça court!, is an absolute blockbuster in Québec. His secret? Only show excellent movies. Each film in his Québec Gold programme has been carefully chosen to show us what the next generation of Québec filmmaking will look like.
