The 71st annual Golden Globe nominations were announced today by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The critically acclaimed drama 12 Years a Slave and 1970s con-artist caper American Hustle led the pack with seven nominations each, securing these films as frontrunners for the Oscars. Hot on their heels is Nebraska, which scored five nods, including best actor in a comedy or musical. Space thriller Gravity earned four nominations, as did the Somali pirate thriller Captain Phillips. However, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, which earned three SAG nominations this week, received no Golden Globe nominations. The Golden Globes, one of the most prestigious set of awards in Hollywood leading to the Oscars in March, will air on Sunday, January 12, 2014, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the show for the second year in a row. ~Marriska Fernandes
