127 Hours inspiration Aron Ralston arrested

The man who inspired the film 127 Hours was arrested on domestic violence charges Sunday night in Denver, Colorado. Aron Ralston, 38, was charged with assault and wrongs to minors. He is currently being held in the Denver County Jail and has a court date scheduled for today. Court records reveal his girlfriend Vita Shannon was also arrested on the same charges. She is set to appear in court today as well. According to TMZ, police reports say Aron told police that he and Vita, who have an eight-week-old son together, got into a fight after arguing about his older son, whom he has with an ex-girlfriend. Aron pushed Vita and she punched him in the back of the head twice. The wrongs to minors charge is because their newborn was present at the time of the incident. Aron became known in 2003 after he went hiking in Utah and his right arm became trapped under a boulder. After surviving over five days in the wilderness without food or water, Aron used a pocketknife to cut off his arm and free himself. A year later, Aron retold his struggles in his 2004 novel Between a Rock and a Hard Place, which was later adapted into the Oscar nominated film 127 Hours starring James Franco. ~Brie Davis
