24 postponed until 2009

By Alexandra Heilbron on February 13, 2008 | 17 Comments

24 filming season 7 in Washington, D.C.With only eight new episodes of 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland finished when the writers strike began, Fox has opted to postpone the premiere of the seventh season. “24 works best 24 hours in a row. I don’t think we’ll see it until 2009,” producer David Fury told E! Online. Meanwhile, executive producer and co-creator Joel Surnow has stepped down from his position on the Emmy-winning drama. “I’ve done seven years, almost eight years at the same place with the same great group of people,” Surnow told Variety. “During the strike I started thinking about different things I’d like to do independently, and decided it was time to see if there were other opportunities I wanted to pursue.”

i don’t see why they can’t bring it back for the fall season and have it run straight until january. i think this is shit and the writers should be ashamed of themselves.

or, do an 8 episode arc, where, in a rush to interrogate a suspected baddie, kiefer has had a few too many and accidentally runs someone over, then has to go to jail for being an idiot drunk driver…season over.

  9. Nancy • February 14, 2008 @ 12:12 PM

Or Kiefer can just join the cast of Big Brother and that can be his jail time. They give him all the free booze he wants in there, but he cannot leave to drive!!

HOW DISAPPOINTING.I WAS LOOKING SO FORWARD TO 24 COMING BACK.IT’S THE BEST SHOW ON TV.
THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THE WRITERS WHAT THEY DESERVED.THEY ARE THE MASTERMINDS OF YOUR FAVOURITE TV SHOWS.

I have to say I am EXTREMELY disappointed hearing this news. I’ve just watched the entire last season to “refresh” in anticipation of some new shows in the not too distant future. Now I have to wait until next year?? Waaaaaaaaaaahhhh….

    Love you Kiefer!!!

If Jack Bauer was sent in to negotiate with the writers, the strike would have been over in less than 24 hours!

A whole year without 24…….say it isn’t so. I had a feeling it might be inevitable but was hoping against hope that somehow it might come back this year. I was so looking forward to seeing Colm Feore being added to the cast. Who knows, with an extra year to prepare it might be a super killer season next year.
