I went running down the street to tell all my neighbors while my Dad patiently constructed the cardboard furniture, til mid afternoon!! I am very lucky to still have it but most importantly I still have my Dad with me too! He’s 89 and sharp as a tack. A truly wonderful father.

Our first Christmas after our first son was born 10 years ago! There is something special about Christmas with children

  34. April • December 21, 2014 @ 11:37 AM

The year I squealed with delight at all the presents under the tree and something whistled back at me. My brother came in and I told him about the strange whistle and something whistled again. We ran upstairs terrified and convinced there was a ghost in our Christmas tree. When we told our parents, my dad laughed and said it was the electronic key finder that he’d bought for my mom and hung on the Christmas tree for her to find. My 4 year old high pitched voice set it off! Lol.

i remember years ago really wanting a BMX bike I saw in a store window like most of the boys my age. I opened all my gifts that Christmas and was pretty happy with everything and then dad brought my attention to a note in the Christmas tree. The note said for me to go downstairs and see what Santa brought me. I raced downstairs to find that beautiful BMX bike waiting for me. Loved that bike !

  53. Melissa • December 21, 2014 @ 11:55 AM

My favorite Christmas memory is back a few years. The family was all getting together at my aunty’s house for dinner, my granmother and grandfather were bringing the turkey over. They arrived at my aunty’s house and we were all waiting in excitement… we were hungry! The next thing you know my grandfather is running in the house with an empty roaster, yelling she ran it over, she ran it over! What had happened?? My grandmother let my grandfather out of the car and was going to park, he put the roaster down when he got out to close the doors, as he was about to pick it up she backed up and ran the whole thing over. We tried to save what we could but ended up with Chinese food that night. This story will never get old!

A female friend and her 3 children stayed with us on a farm at Christmas shortly after her husband and the children’s father had died. The young children were worried that Santa wouldn’t find them so far from home. My father went to check the cows in the barn and while he was gone, Santa came and ho ho ho delivered gifts to the children. After Santa left, my father came back from the barn and the children excitedly told him about Santa’s visit while he was gone. The looks on the children’s faces when Santa came and their excitement was a tear jerker.

When I was 6 years old my twin brother and I left out cookies and milk for Santa and fell asleep by the tree Christmas Eve. When we woke up the milk and cookies were gone and “Santa” left us a note telling us that we were good children and we deserved to have a great Christmas. The tree was filled with gifts and we ran up to wake up our parents to tell them that Santa had dropped by and left us a note. We were the happiest kids in the world. I will never forget that Christmas Morning!

  85. Gina Fleury • December 21, 2014 @ 12:19 PM

My favourite memory was Christmas eve when I was eight years old at my Grandpas house. My cousins and I were all supposed to be in bed asleep or Santa would not be arriving with presents. We heard the front door open and all the adults welcoming someone in. Then we heard a HO HO HO and lots of laughter. Of course the cousins and I had to peek through the stair opening and we saw Santa in a red suit putting gifts in our stockings. We felt extremely excited to see him and extremely worried he would look up to see us and take back our gifts. He never looked up and we went back to bed-giggling and talking amoungst ourselves. Years later my older cousins told me it had been my Dad in a Santa suit but I never forgot my thrill at seeing Santa and never getting caught! A Magical memory

When I was 9 my dad gave me a BB Gun and what made this memorable is that was the only present I ever got from my dad that I had ever remembered for a very strong reason. The next year he gave me away to the Government as a ward of the government (Foster Care) and when I saw him again, he had lost the only present I wanted that he gave me.

A few years ago my Mother-in-law passed away just before Christmas (she was the Matriach of the Family, the Glue that kept us all together). We thought we couldn’t have a Christmas, t0o sad, too depressing. So instead of having a big festive Christmas, just got together, had some wine & app’s & just reminisced. We told stories, laughed, cried & to this today we all say that was one of the Best Christmas’ ever. We all became closer, Thanks to Mother-in-Law watching down on us.

So when we were opening presents Christmas morning, the whole family put on mitts so my sister wouldn’t feel singled out. It took a while to open all the presents, but it was a lot of fun and a Christmas I won’t forget!

I had finally gotten a job in October after finishing my studies and saved so I could buy a diamond and have a custom ring made for her. I place the ringbox in a small gift box which was put in a greater box including cute little items like Hello Kitty candies, ornaments, and chocolates. My family and I made sure that this would be the last present opened. When it came time, she opened it and I went on my knee to propose. She said yes and my family then hugged her to welcome her into the family. It is one of the best moments in my life.

We children had red pillowslips at the end of our beds on Christmas Night.
About 4am next morning my sister and I (we shared a bedroom) heard the sound of
rustling paper from the next room. A sign that our two brothers too were awake and discovering what their slips contained from Santa – so we sat on the floor and opened ours. That time of the morning, the excitement, the joy, I still feel
even now – more than 50 years ago.But even more so, sharing with my brothers and
sister all the goodies we had, eating chocolates, oranges, etc., non stop. And
afterwards, having absolutely no space for breakfast.

When our daughter was 2 1/2, all she wanted for Christmas was her own Christmas tree. Two days before Christmas, I finally found a small plastic tabletop tree complete with its own decorations and mini lights. I bought it, set it up, and shortly before she woke up Christmas morning, I sneaked into her room, put it on her dresser and plugged it in. About a half hour later, she woke up, and as we stood outside her room and listened, we heard her saying “Oh Santa… my very own Christmas tree! Thank you Santa. Ohh…. my very own Christmas tree…..” That was the absolute best Christmas we ever had… giving our little girl such simple but extreme pleasure with a $7 Christmas tree.

When I was a teenager our family didn’t have much money. Just before Christmas I saw a dress in the Sears Catalogue. I really wanted it but I knew my mother couldn’t afford to buy it. I went into my bedroom on Christmas Eve and there was the dress hanging on my lamp. I was both shocked and delighted. That is one Christmas I will never forget and it proved to me that dreams certainly can come true. 🙂

My parents would pack us all up, and travel for 5 hours to spend Christmas with my grandparents. One year we got there, and there was no Christmas tree. My grandfather had decided it was too much work and too messy. For a few days we all tried to get used to the idea, but as kids, we were very sad. So, late in the afternoon on Christmas eve, my grandfather gave in to all the sad faces and deep sighs and he and my uncle and dad went out to cut down a tree. I remember the excitement when they got home, how we all pitched in to decorate it and just how much we laughed and smiled that night!

My favourite holiday memory is the year my husband proposed to me. He had always told me he would never propose on Christmas, my birthday, Valentine’s day…any of the “expected” days. So, on Christmas Day of 2000, he handed me a gift. I opened it and it was a necklace sized box from a jewelry store.

I opened the necklace box…and inside, was a ring box. I was instantly in tears, and so was he. Inside was the most perfect solitaire diamond ring – flush mounted so it wouldn’t get caught in gloves or mittens and in a white and yellow gold setting. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. After 7 years together, I couldn’t believe this day had come!! We married 3 months later on March 31, 2001 and have been together as a couple now for 20 years.

My mother loved the element of surprise. One year I wanted a watch. Went through boxes and bags on Christmas morning, no watch. I was disappointed. Three bags were left and I knew they all contained books. I tried my best to put a smile on my face and be grateful to my mother. Looking at each book and thanking her. Last bag..bottom..there was the watch. I still have it 40 years later.
