James Cameron calls Battleship movie “degrading”

James Cameron told German website Spiegel that the upcoming Battleship movie, in which Rihanna will make her movie debut alongside veteran actor Liam Neeson, is “degrading.” He explained: “We have a story crisis. Now they want to make a movie based on the game Battleship. This is pure desperation,” he said of the film, which has an estimated budget of $200,000,000. He continued: “Everyone in Hollywood knows how important it is for a movie, before it hits theaters, to already be a brand. If a brand has been around, Harry Potter for example, or Spider-Man, you are light years ahead. And there lies the problem. Because unfortunately these brands are always ridiculous. Battleship. This degrades the cinema,” he scoffed. The Canadian director also expressed his disdain for life in Hollywood and said he’s planning to move soon.

I hope the Battleship movie sinks – extremely lazy for a studio to OK this film – what happened to creativity in Hollywood. Liam Neeson, what are you thinking, are you that hard up for money?? Rihanna, this is your Gigli or Glitter, do an independant movie instead.

And this is from the guy who made the Titanic with a False story that never happened on the Titanic..I think he is afraid someone else will make money other than him..Hollywood has always made stupid movies and false stories or they take a story and change everything real to satisfy their brainless studio owners…You made your kabillions now shut-up and move to an island so we never have to see him again…

Oh do tell…what happened in Fort Mac? James Cameron is allowed to have his opinion. I have read he has quite a huge ego, not a shock considering what he does for a living.

I agree with him on this. However, he has been guilty of making a few terrible movies himself.

Ok, really Battleship is about guessing and sinking. So, Cameron is already on the forfront of CGI use and accused of just having CGI run the movie and lack of story, but really he tries to justify his work saying CGI in his films just enhance it. I believe him. It’s the directors like Michael Bay that use CGi to do the driving.
Titanic had an actual story (see the millions of girls that cried for Leo) to sell the CGI sinking of a ship. Now for Battleship, will there be a love story on a half dozen or more ships? Does a giant hand keep coming from the sky and putting markers on the ships? lol…really it’s a game of guessing and sinking. Or will this be a fictional war movie? Either way it’s a lot of CGI to kill a lot of crew members and destroy boats. I’m curious what the underlying story could possibly be.
Either way Cameron is entitled to his opinion and I’m sure he’s got the most clout in Hollywood right now and I’m sure people are listening. Bring on the Monopoly movie and slinky short film!

Maybe he’s scared it might take the No.1 of all time box office gross (no chance, i know), or the fact he might of wanted to make it.
