Adam Shankman checks into rehab

By Tribute on December 10, 2013 | 1 Comment

A day after appearing in good spirits on the red carpet at the TrevorLIVE event in Hollywood, Adam Shankman checked into rehab on Monday. A rep for the 49-year-old director said, “Adam Shankman is currently seeking treatment in a rehabilitation center. His friends and family support him and wish him well on his journey to recovery.” Adam is the director of many popular movies like The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and hit musical films like Rock of Ages and Hairspray. Adam also frequently appeared on So You Think You Can Dance as a judge and directed several episodes of Glee. The TrevorLIVE event is held to raise awareness of suicide-prevention for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) community. Adam was the executive producer and director for the event. When asked why he wanted to get involved, Adam, who is openly gay, said, “I was tortured as a kid and I got through it and there’s actually — through no fault of my parents — there’s a therapist who worked with me when I was very young and tried to deprogram me and really sort of messed with my self-esteem for what might be my entire life. I think that I didn’t deserve that and I think that no one deserves that.” There has been no word yet on exactly why Adam checked into rehab. ~ Jennifer Yoo
