Alec Baldwin has asked to be replaced in the big-screen version of the Broadway hit musical, Rock of Ages, citing a newly discovered medical condition. The film’s cast, which includes Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand and Paul Giamatti, is scheduled to meet in Miami on May 23rd for a read through before shooting begins. Baldwin was cast as Dennis Dupree, an over-the-hill rockstar and the owner of a Sunset Boulevard nightclub. According to Deadline Hollywood, New Line studio head Toby Emmerich told them the part is difficult to recast, because it’s a “meaty role with a big musical number.” Both Steve Carell and Will Ferrell previously turned the role down. However, Emmerich said he was curious to see if Baldwin also pulls out of Woody Allen‘s new comedy, The Wrong Picture, which is scheduled to begin shooting later this year in Rome.

Almost a year after Halyna Hutchins was shot by Alec Baldwin on the set of the movie Rust, the wrongful death case has been settled and filming will resume.
Wonder what the medical condition is and if it’ll keep him from doing his TV show.
Don’t know why they say he’d be difficult to replace. I could see either Jeff or Beau Bridges filling the role of a retired rock star. Hollywood is full of excellent actors and I find it very hard to think any of them couldn’t be replaced with someone else if necessary.
Tribute has written this up as if someone doesn’t believe he’s really sick by saying that Emmerich was curious to see if Baldwin pulls out of Woody Allen’s new comedy. Hey – if you’re sick, you’re sick. You won’t be acting in any of the films if you’re not able. If he does Woody Allen’s pic,(which isn’t until later this year), then either he got better or he was faking it to get out of Emmerich’s film which some other actors had turned down the part for. I’m not crazy about Baldwin ever since he attacked his young daughter’s self esteem and verbally abused her, but……who hasn’t called into work sick when they really weren’t?
Maybe his illness causes grief when he tries to sing and that’s why he needs to drop out. I’m placing bets on throat herpes :s
I bet Tim Curry could pull off this ‘meaty role’ in a heartbeat…
