Amanda Seyfried, 28, has always spoken candidly about her body image and the pressures of Hollywood. Now the Les Misérables actress is discussing how aspects of her career almost turned out differently because of her weight. In October, Amanda took to Twitter and admitted to her followers that she was almost not cast in multiple roles because she was considered to be “overweight.”
“Fun fact: I almost lost out on several roles in my career because I was overweight. Wrong, America,” she tweeted.
In an interview with Elle UK the petite blonde spoke about her conscientiousness regarding her body image: “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t constantly aware of what I’m doing with my body.” Her extremely healthy lifestyle definitely reflects this as she describes her strict diet and fitness regime to Self magazine in 2010 as primarily a raw diet with five days of running and Pilates on the weekends.
However, Amanda knows society’s expectations are unrealistic and unhealthy, telling Self, “Nobody’s perfect. Only in Hollywood are people perfect and that’s because they spend thousands of dollars on trainers and diets and surgeries. That’s what we’re made to feel like we’re supposed to look like but if you put it in perspective, there’s nothing realistic about it!”
Amanda expressed her hope to Elle UK that standards of body images are beginning to change, specifically thanks to supermodel Kate Upton, who is known for her curves. ~Janine Wyslobicky
