American Gangster beats bees at box office

American Gangster starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe debuted at No. 1 at the weekend box office with $46.3 million (all figures US). The new animated comedy Bee Movie opened in second place, taking in 39.1 million. Last weekend’s top release, Saw IV, dropped to third, earning $11 million. Dan in Real Life dropped two spots to fourth, grossing $8.1 million, while 30 Days of Night rounded out the top five in its third weekend, taking in an additional $4 million.
