American Idol going back to three judges

The next season of American Idol will go back to having only three judges in an attempt to combat declining ratings. Rumors say that the show will be given a complete makeover, however, Fox will not comment until the current season comes to an end later this week. Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly has confirmed that Randy Jackson is saying goodbye to Idol and looks forward to other “business ventures.” The other current judges, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, have been invited back for season 13, but considering the drama between the female judges, there has been much speculation as to whether they will want to return. “Our new season begins Friday morning after the finale. Everything at this point is on the table,” said Reilly. He does not blame the show’s dwindling ratings on the judges but says the show has been around for 12 seasons and many changes were made that affected the viewership. He explains, “We expanded some of the middle rounds. We did a boy/girl thing that went over three weeks. That is where the ratings really took their biggest hit.” He plans to modify the show’s structure, add a “few fresh twists” and hopes it “will be a really nice little jolt for next season.”  ~Sarah Dos Santos [poll id=”448″]
