American Idol series to end run in 2016

After 15 seasons, the curtains will finally close on the once extremely popular television singing contest, American Idol. Fox announced today that the next season will be the final season, giving one more contestant the opportunity to become a star.

Once the most popular show on television, Idol has experienced a significant slide in ratings over the past few years. Despite losing its title, the decision to call it a wrap was a difficult one.

“It’s the right time to bring this run to a close. We really wanted to do it in a way that felt special and celebratory … and send it off in a way that is as significant as the run it’s had on our network,” said Fox TV group chairman-CEO Gary Newman in a statement.

Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban will return as Season 15 judges, along with host Ryan Seacrest.

Will we the see performances from Idol alumnus such as Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, or Carrie Underwood? Or former judges, such as Simon Cowell or Randy Jackson, returning for a guest spot?
