American Idol‘s David Cook in hospital scare

By Alexandra Heilbron on April 2, 2008 | 11 Comments

David CookAmerican Idol contestant David Cook was taken to the hospital last night following his performance on the show, after he experienced heart palpitations, a source told People.com. He looked and sounded confident during his rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Little Sparrow” and smiled during the judge’s comments, though he’d been feeling ill earlier in the day. He was examined by the show’s medics, who urged him to go to the hospital immediately, but he was determined to wait until the show was off the air. He was escorted to the hospital, treated for high blood pressure and released several hours later. An “A.I.” exec told TMZ.com that Cook has been under a lot of stress because his brother, who has cancer, had a setback. Earlier in the season, just before a performance, David collapsed and said he could not go on — but pulled it together at the last minute and went on to perform.

There are times I think IDOL just has too much drama for tv.

Thing is, even though he’s a great singer, they will not cut him any slack. Which is a shame, I think he has a very good chance of winning this season, if his health holds up.

He could be the next Taylor Hicks or even Clay Aiken — he’s THAT good. 🙂

Maybe he should sit down and ask himself if the goal he’s aspiring for is really worth his health? And, if he actually does win, will his health hold up under the rigors of the tour they have to go on?

One other thing – that picture of him makes him look like he’s stoned. Could his high B.P. be the result of drugs not prescribed by any doctor?

Looks like he needs a shower and shave. I don’t mean to sound rude but in this picture, he looks like he has Downs Syndrome!!

To think – his life is worth an American Idol win. Amazing.

I doubt very much that his life is at stake, but hopefully, if he wins, he will take his tour and whatever else, a little bit slower than previous winners.

Like he’ll have any control over that!

And as for his life at stake; high blood pressure can lead to death you idiot. When the blood pressure gets high enough it damages the heart permanently. I’ve seen first hand how it can cause the heart to not function properly, the “pump” can’t process fluids efficiently which leads to them backing up in the lungs. Not a good thing when the code “Respiratory distress, emergency room” is sounded.

So, yes, his life could very well be at stake, for what? A record contract?

His choice to make though, isn’t it? We all have things in our lives that we would give our lives for, don’t we? There are countless things that “CAN” lead to death! Jeeze, if everyone had that attitude, we would never leave our homes!! I, personally, would rather live a short “good” fun filled life, than a long, boring one! I’m sure he will be just fine as long as he takes his blood pressure medication as prescribed.
