Naked Harry Potter a disappointment

Daniel Radcliffe during Equus curtain callIt may have been a hit in London, but ticket sales for Equus on Broadway are disappointing. Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the title role in the Harry Potter films, appears nude onstage in the play, but sales have been dropping since it opened.

Barely 60 per cent of the Broadhurst Theatre’s seats were sold last week and the show brought in just over $500,000 gross, a whopping $100,000 less than the week before. The show, which opened just over a month ago, is scheduled to run to February, but may close early if ticket sales continue to drop.

It’s not necessarily a reflection on any of the stars or the quality of the production. It’s much more likely that the reason tickets aren’t selling is that the US economy is in such a precarious position that buying theatre tickets is a luxury many can no longer afford as they try to save their homes.

Harry Potter naked was the draw. I think people just don’t care to see his wand and kettles. Put on some clothes and make another Harry Potter movie. Go!!!!!

Ah, that’s too bad. I saw Equus in London and thought it was amazing. The story was great, and it was very surreal seeing Daniel Radcliffe play a disturbed teen who blinds horses. New Yorkers, go, give it a chance!

Wow, maybe Americans are still senstive about nakedness. To which then they might be scare of the nakedness of Harry Potter.

Ya! NO? I am not impressed that he has started going the way most famous kid actors go. I blindly expected more from him, if all he wants is nevagive paparatzi then that is exactly where he is heading. If that is what he chooses to do , for our children and yes some adults and die hard Potter fans he is somewhat tainting the image of Harry Potter, wait until all the movies are done and out, then if you choose to taint your immage go right ahead, but it is dissapointing even for a mom who is a Potter geek to see. Maybe the show is amazing, but I will never know that, I personaly am dissapointed and because of him apearing nude I would not go see the show, yes it’s ok to call me shallow minded if that is what you choose, but those are my feelings.I would much rather see him do other movies so we can all enjoy his amazing acting tallent, what kind of films he would do? who knows, but I would probably go see it whatever he decides to do, it is his acting skills that have made Harry Potter Harry. he is loved by millions, but I would hate to see him or any other of the young stars taint their reputation.
My opinion take it or leave it, no matter.

I saw Equus around the beginning of October and thought it was absolutely amazing. I have to say the only reason I travelled from Toronto to New York in the first place was to see Daniel Radcliffe but the whole cast was fabulous. I have a feeling that Americans really don’t understand the concept behind the play hence why it was more popular in London because in Europe they’re a bit more open to sexuality and nudity. People might just have to broaden their horizons a little.

I don’t think it matters that he is naked but I don’t understand why anyone has to be naked to act. There have been very good movies in previous years and no one ran aroud naked and cursing and such all the time. Why we need that kind of stuff in film and broadway I just cant understand. And then you try and teach our children values. Ya right. But this is only my opinion.

Trust Americans not to get it. Probably protesting cause omg he’s naked and tainted his reputation whatever that means. He’s not on drugs or whoring about he’s just naked for a few minutes.Sad that in trying not to limit himself he meets with stupid censorship.

If I had the money to travel from Nova Scotia to New York to see this play I would. There is not enough money in the world for someone to convince me not to see it. The American economy is tipping these days and they do not have the money to spend on stuff like that. Also they just might not be into that sort of thing. I bet that if they brought the play here to Canada, it would be a hit.

I have just returned from living in NYC for a year…went to see the play…hundreds of people every night line the streets to see Harry and Mr Dursley…the problem…the economy…corporate seats that are bought and paid for have no one in them…you can get tickets for just about anything now on Broadway…why…because thousands of financial industry employees are out of a job…the stores are empty, the restaurants are empty…even the subways are empty

I once saw a play where someone was naked in it, and the whole time I was like OMG this person is naked, why are you naked and please for gods sake put some clothes on! Whatever was happening in the play, I was so distracted by the nakedness that I couldn’t follow the storyline.

Fay —— i do not believe he is tainting his reputation or image. as long as he is doing the nude scenes in a tasteful, non degrading way i dont see how anyone could look at him differently. im sure that when he signed up for this, it wasnt only to try and get more fans, i think it was just because he wanted to try something outside of harry potter. and i have not saw it, given the fact i live in oshawa ontario and i have no money to go or do ANYTHING, but im sure if i had the chance, i would see it and if anything it would make me like him that much more for taking on a difficult role where idiots such as yourself may form a different opinion on him just because you would have never done anything like that YOURSELF. guess thats why youre not famous? haha

If I had the chance to see the play, I would absolutely go! Not because Daniel is naked but because this is such an incredible story. I have seen nudity on the stage, in the movies, practically on the side of busses. . . so is anyone really surprised what a guy looks like naked? For myself, I loves the Harry Potter stories, but, in my opinion, they have left the movies too long. Interesting that when the last movie ends Harry is something like 17, while Daniel will be closer to 30.

“Why we need that kind of stuff in film and broadway I just cant understand. And then you try and teach our children values.”
Obviously it’s not a children’s play it’s for adults who are are capable of understanding what’s going on and why. Despite playing a kid in the harry potter films he is an adult now and if he wants to try something different than good for him. Naked on stage has been done before so what if it’s daniel doing it today. People need to blame somebody for the play not doing well and the easiest target is him. Not every play is going to do amazing in the US especially not at this time of recession.

RELAX People, it is not a porno movie, rather a look into the life of a disturbed teen, if it’s not doing so well in the U.S of A. there is probably other factors. I hope they bring it up to Canada very soon as I think it will be a hit up here. I know I for one would be in the line-up to see again.

    if you wanna see it…go
    if you don’t…stay home
    simple

it’s not like they’re being forced to watch it in a kindergarten class, people.

Daniel is not condemned to represent 14 year old Harry Potter for life
