Amy Winehouse found dead at 27

Singer/ songwriter Amy Winehouse, famous for her song “Rehab,” was found dead on July 23 at her home in Camden Square, a region north of London. According to Chris Goodman, a friend and rep for Winehouse, the singer’s body was discovered by a security guard who had been appointed to look after her.

“She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep, and when he went to wake her he found she wasn’t breathing,” Goodman told TMZ. “He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed.”

Details about her death are still unknown, but friends close to the star have claimed her death followed a binge of ecstasy and alcohol.

For several years, the five-time Grammy winner struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and disastrous relationships. She refused treatment many times for her substance abuse. According to The Associated Press, last month she cancelled her European tour after she slurred her way through songs in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. Winehouse’s management team flew her home and saying she needed time off to recover.

The R&B and Jazz singer’s troubles and bizarre antics often overshadowed her music making Winehouse an ideal fit for the “27 Club,” a group name allotted to troubled rock stars that have died at the age of 27 including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison.

Since news broke about her death, many celebrities have taken to twitter to pay their respects. The Daily Mirror reported Lady Gaga wrote on twitter: “RIP to the amazing #amywinehouse. Such a talented singer.” And Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, who was with Amy earlier in the week, said: “It’s a very sad loss of a very good friend.”

Janis Winehouse, Amy’s mother, said she believed her daughter’s death was “only a matter of time” this being said the day before her tragic death. “She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me.” She also mentioned her daughter told her she loved her as they parted on Friday. “They are the words I will always treasure…I’m glad I saw her when I did.”

“They tried to make me go to rehab and I said no, no, no”,…Maybe she should have said yes…Those who do not learn from their mistakes, or the mistakes of others, are doomed to repeat them…R.I.P…

For some people, the worst thing that can happen is get famous. I have to imagine that people around her tried to give her help since she actually went to rehab but she left prematurely. When you hit rock bottom, you either stay down until you die or find a way back to save your life.

Apparently there were nor drugs found in her home when she died. I love how once she dies, everyone assumes it was drugs. Sure she was addicted to drugs but for all we know it could be something else that killed her.

i read today the cause of death after autopsy is undetermined. That’s too bad she had to join the 27 club in a way. But in another way she is immortalized by being a part of the club where fame ended early in a way..but in another way if they couldn’t deal with their fame, they are now more famous then they ever thought possible. Everyone will always wonder what if… What if they made another song..What if they made another album… what if they got married, or had kids, or movies in the future etc.. Their history is alive and the questions left behind will keep it going.

@ NomNom on July 25, 2011 2:50 PM It’s not the drugs inside the room that matters, it’s what was in her body. It’s an easy assumption to make don’t you think given her history? But yeah, it could be something else but what else could have killed a 27 year old so abruptly I wonder.
