Angelina Jolie asks father for silence vow

By Alexandra Heilbron on February 24, 2010 | 10 Comments

angelina_jolieAngelina Jolie reportedly made her father Jon Voight promise he would never give interviews about her again before she agreed to reconcile with him. The two have been estranged since 2002, when Jon accused Angelina of having “serious mental problems” in an interview. He added he was trying to persuade her to “get help.” Angelina was furious about the remarks, and refused to speak to Jon for years. Late last year, the pair began talking on the phone and have now reconciled. “The reconciliation started a few months ago, after many long talks between Jon and Angie,” one of Jon’s friends told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Jon promised over and over and over again that he would never again talk to the press about any personal things involving her or her children. I get the impression Jon is so anxious to have a relationship with Angie and his grandchildren, he guaranteed he would really be careful about all future comments.” Jon and Angie were spotted together for the first time since 2002 over the weekend. They enjoyed a family day out with Angelina’s partner Brad Pitt and their daughter Zahara in Venice, Italy, where Angelina is filming her latest movie.

good for her. i would do the same if i was famous and my father said those disgusting comments about me. how can someone talk about their child that way? and to the public, no less? im glad she decided to give jon another chance though, she would have regretted not fixing things if anything happened to him.

Well, I just read online, that he went and gave another interview about her! A good interview, mind you but, an interview none-the-less. He praised her and Brad for being such great parents.

wonder how shes going to take that? shes probably going to think he felt forced to say those things about her and brad and that no ones going to believe him and shes probably going to be MAD. lol. we will see i guess?

You’re right – she probably will be mad because there exists a man who, even despite his best intentions, isn’t playing by her rules. I wonder how old I’ll have to be before I think it’s reasonable or justifiable to boss MY parents around. Don’t think it’s going to happen – it’s called respect!

well, where is the respect jon has for his daughter? to go in an interview that will clearly be heard/seen by the ENTIRE world he called her all kinds of terrible names. that would be the minute my respect for my dad would be gone.

I bet she will be A-OK with him saying good things about her to the media though, LOL. Meanwhile, how the heck would he know how good of parents she and Brad are…he hasn’t been around to see their parenting more than once or twice, hahaha.

Agreed, mandee, respect between parents and their children has to go both ways. I’ve seen so many parents belittle their children in public, then get mad when the child doesn’t respect them. Respect is not a natural thing, like breathing, eating, etc, it is a learned trait, and the only way for children to learn how to respect others is to BE respected. They have to experience it, live it, in order to learn it.
