Angelina Jolie banned from Bosnia

Angelina Jolie has been banned from filming in Bosnia. Rumors began circulating after Bosnia’s Federal Ministry of Culture abruptly withdrew permission for Jolie to direct her first film there. Bakira Hasecic, president of the Women Victims of War association, claimed the film should not be shot in Bosnia because the script “offends a female war victim and distorts the truth about what that woman has suffered.” She said there has never been an instance of any female war victim falling in love with her rapist. Angelina admits the script contains difficult scenarios. “There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters, and that will be revealed once the film is released,” she said in a statement. “My hope is that people will hold judgment until they have seen the film. Obviously, any dramatic interpretation will always fail those who have had a real experience.” A source told US magazine: “This is not the story in the script… It is highly likely the script will be reviewed within a day or so and all of this will be resolved.”

I doubt any woman would ever fall in love with a guy who raped her. There’s just no way.

I’m wondering who the hell even had the audacity to come up with such a ridiculous premise.

maddy, maybe if they were sick or had some kind of “rape fantasy” fetish or something. but, no, i agree most women wouldnt fall in love with their rapist.

it has happened, it’s not real love but more of a psychological problem that can develop from being raped. Women who may be raped multiple time by the same assailant over a period of time could develop feelings, but like i said is psychological. it has a lot of the same characteristics as Stockholm syndrome

sam – I was thinking the same thing re:Stockholm syndrome. Anyway, like Angelina says in her statement, people should hold judgment until they have seen the movie – and it IS a dramatic interpretation.

Well, there have been some cases where the victim has feeling for the rapist, but they only get feelings if they become pregnant, from the rapist. thats sounds pretty messed

people stop being judgemental. of course raped women are sensitive about that. but seems they still don’t have to feel sensitive about the movie. it’s fictional and it’s drama. let her direct her first movie in peace. people!

I really doubt women raped multiple times would fall in love with the rapist. When has that ever happened? Did Elizabeth Smart fall in love with her rapist? Did Jaycee Dugard, who was rescued after 18 years (and had 2 kids)? How about that woman in Europe who was hidden away and held captive by her father and had children with him? Or Natascha Kampusch? At most, they felt pity for them because they’re such pathetic losers but when they were rescued, not one of them wanted to be back with the guy.

I never said that they fall in love with them I never said they do love them, but develop a psychological bond that feels like love but is not.it can happen, you are just naming cases made famous by the news. there have been other cases, cases which I have worked on were I have seen it happen.

It is a disgusting and highly insensitive storyline if in fact the victim does fall in love with her rapist. It was a terrible war, women and children in the thousands were raped and tortured and the wounds are still very fresh. Not a surprise the womens group are upset based on what they’ve heard. All Jolie has to do is show them the script to put their mind at ease if in fact it has nothing to do with a rape/love story. What does she have to hide?

It’s not a new storyline, though people!! It happened years ago on General Hospital – AND THE COUPLE GOT MARRIED!! It’s not like it’s a brand-new concept for a story.

Jodie on October 15, 2010 11:28 PM well, clearly those specific women didnt have a psychological disorder that made them crave pain. some people would love their rapist if they wanted to be in emotional and physical pain. some people look for significant others that will cause them pain, or will go out of their way to alienate the people closest to them just so they themselves can suffer emotional discomfort, others do it for attention. just because SOME women dont feel a specific way after being raped, doesnt mean they all will feel the same.

meggie, the reason its such a big deal is because its angelina jolie. most people dont like her.

Thank you mandee for that info. Where did you get your degree in psychology? And what particular psychological disorder has been studied in which female war victims crave pain? Can you give us a URL for the findings from that particular study? I’d like to read the report where you found your statistical information. Because what you’re spouting is very dangerous. If you think there are raped women who crave pain, you just gave sick puppies out there permission to go out and rape women, because, certain women love being raped, so it must be okay. Maybe some people like pretending they’re being raped by their husbands or boyfriends, which is called role playing and whatever turns them on, I don’t care. But thank you for that misinformation. And btw, that storyline on GH was the stupidest soap opera plot of all time.

According to this morning’s news, Angelina’s got her filming permit back now.

Jodie on October 18, 2010 10:10 AM i have KNOWN people that pursued a relationship with their rapist because they felt the deserved the pain, or because they wanted to self injure themselves and didnt have the guts to do it, so instead they dated the violent man that already proved he was willing to abuse them. and for all you know, i may actually be IN a psychology course, i just finished one thanks and im on my next one. so feel free to keep your rude, snide comments to yourself next time. just because youre uneducated and havent met people that have actually tried to be with their rapist (the way i have met people like that) doesnt mean theres no such thing, nor does it mean youre a smarter person than i am. as a rape survivor myself, i obviously said no where in ANY of my comments that it was “okay” for a man to rape or hurt any woman in this world, or vise versa. stop twisting my words because youre bent out of shape that you arent always right.

  16. mandee • October 18, 2010 @ 12:18 PM

oops, ps i never said anything about war victims, i meant women in general. it IS POSSIBLE for someone that is raped to develop feelings for their rapist or crave being injured. i didnt say it was true about this specific story, i meant it CAN BE possible.
