Ant-Man leaps into top spot at weekend box office

Just 12 weeks after Marvel took a stranglehold on the box office with Avengers: Age of Ultron, they are back with their brand new superhero flick, Ant-Man. Starring Paul Rudd as the latest hero to be added to the Marvel cinematic universe, Ant-Man earned an estimated $58 million this weekend, making it Marvel’s 12th film to debut at No. 1. Falling to second this week was the movie featuring everyone’s favorite evil sidekicks, Minions, starring Sandra Bullock as the voice of Scarlet Overkill. The movie took in an additional $50.2 million. Tribute.ca readers continue to love the antics of Bob, Kevin and Stuart, rating it 4.2 stars.

Opening in third this weekend was the much-anticipated Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreckwhich brought in an impressive $30.2 million in its debut weekend, making it director Judd Apatow’s second-best opening ever after 2007’s Knocked Up, which made $30.9 million. Tribute.ca readers found the film to be hilarious, rating it 3.6 stars.

Dropping one spot to fourth this week was the hit animated film Inside Outabout the emotions inside a young girl’s brain. The movie brought in $11.7 million. Tribute.ca readers appreciate the unique story line, rating it 4.5 stars.

Rounding out the top five this week was the action/disaster Jurassic World starring Chris Pratt, bringing in another $11.4 million over the weekend. Tribute.ca readers continue to love the smash hit, rating the movie 4 stars. ~Greg Chisholm
