Archie Comics to kill off Archie Andrews

By Tribute on April 10, 2014 | 7 Comments

He’s been a pop culture icon since the 1940s and now, over 60 years later, Archie Comics plans to kill off their beloved Archie Andrews. According to a report on CNN, in the July 16th release, issue #36 of Life With Archie (a spinoff of the original series), Archie will sacrifice himself to save a friend. The Life With Archie series showcases possible future scenarios of Archie and the rest of the Riverdale gang in an attempt to keep up with current times. CNN spoke with Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, the son of Archie creator John Goldwater, who explained that Life With Archie was meant to show readers Archie’s life after high school and college. When asked, “Why Kill Archie?” Goldwater explained, “Archie dies as he lives — heroically. Archie has always been a representation of us — the best of us. Our strengths and our faults.” Though Archie may be “killed” off, a planned back from the dead zombie Archie series is already in place Afterlife with Archie. ~Tarah Bleier

Children are growing up too fast ‘as is’…can’t they read their favourite comics books without having to learn that there ‘hero’ dies.

…kinda reminds of when I was 8 years old and enjoying an episode of MASH…during the last 5-minutes of the show we learn that our beloved Colonel Blake dies (“his chopper was shot down over the Sea of Japan, it spun in, there were no survivors”)…I still remember the words, didn’t see that one coming when I sat down as a kid to watch TV that night.

No way do we need to have Archie come back as a zombie.

Are you frickin kidding me? Why does society have to darken down everything?? Why can’t there just be some joy, light, and laughter in our lives? Zombies and Archie Comics do not go together! Good grief. Does everything have to end tragically nowadays? Give us our heros and just let them be!

If your best friend jumped off a cliff, would you follow? Why are the creators bending to peer pressure…. do what’s right for the series not what you think is trending!!!!!

OMG – that is just SO stupid – NO NO NO

When I was a young girl – I just LOVED those comics – they are a fond childhood memory…..

I DO realize today is different and kids are different – but I know kids still like comics – and I am sure the younger ones still love Archie and his buddies as much as I did.

What a stupid idea to kill Archie off – and then make him a zombie…….I don`t know if the writer is still alive – but if not – he would be rolling in his grave !!!!!!!

To all those complaining, are you even reading the Archie series, Life with Archie? It is a spin-off of the original, so in another universe, Archie is ok. Life with Archie is just following the ways of other comics where the main characters are killed off, and then, brought back to life. Don’t like it? Stick to the original series.
