He’s been a pop culture icon since the 1940s and now, over 60 years later, Archie Comics plans to kill off their beloved Archie Andrews. According to a report on CNN, in the July 16th release, issue #36 of Life With Archie (a spinoff of the original series), Archie will sacrifice himself to save a friend. The Life With Archie series showcases possible future scenarios of Archie and the rest of the Riverdale gang in an attempt to keep up with current times. CNN spoke with Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, the son of Archie creator John Goldwater, who explained that Life With Archie was meant to show readers Archie’s life after high school and college. When asked, “Why Kill Archie?” Goldwater explained, “Archie dies as he lives — heroically. Archie has always been a representation of us — the best of us. Our strengths and our faults.” Though Archie may be “killed” off, a planned back from the dead zombie Archie series is already in place Afterlife with Archie. ~Tarah Bleier
