Ariana Grande leads star-studded One Love Manchester concert

This past Sunday saw 50,000 people gather at the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester to watch Ariana Grande and a host of other superstar singers pay tribute to the victims of the Manchester bombing attack.
Proceeds from the sold out “One Love” benefit concert will go to helping victims of the attack that killed 22 people after Ariana performed just two weeks ago on May 22nd. Headlined by Grande, the show was a star-studded event, which included performances by Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, The Black Eyed Peas, Robbie Williams, Miley Cyrus and more.
Concertgoers were emotional during Grande’s performance of her song “My Everything,” which she sang alongside the Parrs Wood High School Choir, whose cover of the song went viral after they performed it in tribute to the Manchester bombing victims.
Indeed, it was an emotional concert for both the audience and the performers alike. Grande broke down during her performance of “Over the Rainbow.” She thanked the crowd for their continued love and strength and said, “I want to thank you so much for coming together and being so loving and strong.”
Grande continued, “I love you guys so much and I think that the kind of love and unity that you’re displaying is the medicine the world really needs right now.”
When Justin Bieber showed up on stage to a sea of excited fans to perform an acoustic version of “Love Yourself,” he was also emotional as he told the crowd, “God loves you so, so much.” He praised everyone coming together, saying, “What an amazing thing we’re doing tonight, would you agree. Would you agree that love always wins?”
Security at the concert was understandably tight, and was tightened further following another brutal terrorist attack that occurred late Saturday night, which saw three men drive a truck into a crowd only to later stab people in nearby pubs and restaurants. Seven were killed and 48 were injured.
According to ABC News, the funds raised from the benefit for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund totaled nearly $9 million so far, and donations are still coming in. The fund’s Just Giving page says, “money raised will be used to assist the victims of the attack, their families and dependents.” Any extra funds raised “will be used to respond to similar events in the U.K. that charity trustees consider appropriate.”
