Poor Woody Allen. Even when he’s not in the headlines, he just can’t keep out of the headlines, courtesy of one Mark Spiridakos, who was arrested on assault charges after invading the New England set of the director’s next film. Reportedly, Spiridakos arrived to the Rhode Island set in downtown Providence asking “weird questions” about the film’s cast, which includes Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Parker Posey. According to a member of the film’s security team, the strange pedestrian became aggressive, throwing chairs, punches, and even managed to hit one guard with a lunch bucket before fleeing the scene.
Spiridakos, who sustained a head injury when security and bystanders tackled him to the ground, was questioned by police, who arrested him and sent him by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital.
Following his discharge, Spiridakos was scheduled to appear in a Providence courtroom Wednesday on charges of simple assault and assault with a deadly weapon. In addition to a hard-learned lesson in justice, the judge might just teach him the difference between filming a scene and making a scene. ~Daniel Horowitz
