avatarIn its third weekend at the box office, Avatar collected another $68 million (all figures in US currency) in domestic ticket sales for a total of $352 million in the U.S. and Canada, and more than a billion dollars worldwide. This is the second time that a film of James Cameron‘s has achieved enormous financial success — Titanic earned a total of $1.8 billion and still holds the rank of best-selling movie of all time. Other movies to reach the billion-dollar mark have been The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with $1.11 billion, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest at $1.06 billion. ~Alexandra Heilbron
