There were no new wide releases this past week, which meant that Avatar: The Way of Water again took the top spot at the box office. Last weekend’s storm kept many moviegoers at home, so many who were stuck inside were able to now venture out to catch up on the latest films.
Avatar: The Way of Water starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana remained at the top of the box office for the third weekend in a row, despite the release of three new movies. The film took in an extra $63.4 million for a three-week total of $421.6 million.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish remained in second. The animated film, starring the voice of Antonio Banderas in the title role, racked up an additional $16.3 million, earning a total of $60.7 million in two weeks.
Climbing back up to third place after dropping out of the top five last weekend was Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It took in an extra $4.8 million for an eight-week total of $438 million.
Dropping a spot to fourth was the movie Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody starring Naomi Ackie as in the title role. It earned an additional $4.3 million for a two-week total of $14.9 million.
Rounding out the top five was Babylon, starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, taking in another $2.7 million for a two-week total of $10.1 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron
