Joss Whedon announced through his fan site Whedonesque last Sunday that The Avengers would start filming Monday (yesterday). He wrote: “Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I’m legally permitted to say that). Day one. That’s right. We’ll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene… Anyhoo, it should be a fun day, followed by the eighty thousand other fun days it will take to finish this. I’ll be checking in from time to time, if there’s news or I crave attention (i.e. am awake).” Production began yesterday in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After that, the film will continue on with principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. The all-star cast includes Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man; Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. It’s set to be released on on May 4, 2012.
