Barrymore considered as Twilight sequel director

Drew Barrymore has confirmed rumors that she’s being considered to direct the third movie in the Twilight saga, Eclipse. However, Summit Entertainment remains coy, saying they’re looking at a number of candidates. Other directors reportedly being considered are Paul Weitz (New Moon director Chris Weitz’s brother) and James Mangold, but according to EW.com, Spanish horror director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage), is rumored to be the favorite. A protégé of Guillermo Del Toro, Bayona has never directed an English-language film to date, though he’s signed to helm the horror thriller The Hater for Universal. But are Twilight fans going to appreciate a director who will highlight the horror aspect of the books? Or a director who may turn Eclipse into a light-hearted romp (Barrymore)? Mangold seems to be the most experienced director, with solid hits such as Kate and Leopold, 3:10 to Yuma and the Oscar-winning Walk the Line to his credit, proving he’s not afraid to delve into character relationships while also capable of delivering action. In the meantime, Twilight fans can look forward to New Moon and gauge what kind of job new director Chris Weitz does with the second story in the saga.
