Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner file for divorce

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner confirmed on Tuesday – one day after their 10th wedding anniversary – that they are filing for divorce. The couple have three children – Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3. It’s been reported that they took a year of couples therapy and have been separated for six months, according to the New York Post‘s Page Six column.

They jointly released a statement that read: “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children, whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter.”

The divorce is rumored to be due to Affleck’s gambling, extra-marital affairs and lengthy absences from home. Affleck and Garner met when they both played roles in the 2001 movie Pearl Harbor, then they began to date when they co-starred in the 2003 movie Daredevil, and were married in June 2005.
