Ben Affleck denies $400,000 gambling debt

Ben Affleck says a Star magazine report claiming he lost $400,000 to Universal Pictures head Ronald Meyer during a private poker game with Hollywood insiders isn’t true. A source told the tabloid that Affleck lost the money in 2004 and spent “months” trying to avoid paying off the debt. However, it’s public knowledge that Affleck won $356,000 in June 2004 at the California State Poker Championships, so it’s unclear why he wouldn’t have had the money to pay up. At any rate, the insider claimed that at this alleged private game: “‘Ben busted big. He drummed up a giant tab, and then all of a sudden he disappeared from the game. He wasn’t seen for months.” The source added, “Eventually, Ron got paid and Ben started turning up to the games again.” Meyer’s daughter, Jennifer, is married to Tobey Maguire, who’s been known to win large amounts at underground poker games. Affleck’s rep responded in a statement to AM New York by saying: “Complete garbage. Made up and lacking any real sources.”

He paid, so good on him for living up to obligations. Maybe he only had like a $5000 p/day ATM limit so it took him a while to get the $400k. Um maybe he disappeared cause he’s all over the globe on movie sets etc and came back right away and settled up. Either way he lived up to his debt.

Good for Him for paying up but since he claims he didn’t gamble, & didn’t owe the money, Why did he pay it to Mr. Meyer’s??

That’s what I was thinking C-Dub, maybe he had to travel the globe for movie shoots and was unable to settle until he got back.

Rita, because the same source that says he was gambling is the same source that says Meyer’s got paid. Neither are Mr. Affleck.
