Ben Stiller in talks to direct Pinocchio

Robert Downey Jr. wants to make a new Pinocchio film and he may have convinced his buddy Ben Stiller to direct it. Tim Burton was pegged to helm the movie when it was first proposed but he dropped out after talks led the project on a path he wasn’t interested in. At CinemaCon, Robert Downey Jr. successfully pitched Pinocchio to his Tropic Thunder co-star, who has directed numerous movies including the upcoming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. According to Deadline, Stiller is now meeting with Warner Bros. about the film. Other details are still being worked out as well.

Kick Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman has already penned one script but others are being considered. With Stiller directing instead of Burton, the film will probably be funny rather than creepy. Downey Jr.’s Pinocchio will also take a different perspective than previous versions of the story and focus on Geppetto’s (Downey Jr.) search for his puppet-child. Those who want to see RDJ on screen now can catch him in Iron Man 3, which opens everywhere this weekend. ~Cassie Jasinski
