Benedict Cumberbatch is Guillermo del Toro’s pick for Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro may soon work with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch on his big screen adaptation of Frankenstein. In a new interview with The Daily Telegraph, the Pacific Rim director revealed that Cumberbatch is his top choice for the lead role. If the plan moves forward, it would not only be Cumberbatch’s second time working with the Oscar-nominated director (he is set to star in del Toro’s Crimson Peak, which starts production in February), but it would also mark his second time being attached to the role. He previously starred in Danny Boyle’s London stage production two years ago, opposite Elementary‘s Jonny Lee Miller. Cumberbatch and Miller alternated, playing both the roles of Dr. Victor Frankenstein and the monster. Del Toro’s Frankenstein has been in development since 2009 and previously had actor Doug Jones in contention for the role of the monster. ~Alfonso Espina
