Betty White voted AP Entertainer of the year

Betty White, 88, has been voted the Entertainer of the Year by members of The Associated Press. Earlier this year, she became the object of a Facebook campaign launched in order to have her to host the late night live comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live. The power of Facebook was not to be denied and she hosted, with her episode receiving the highest overnight ratings for the show in 18 months. She’d actually been asked to host three times previously, but had turned it down, because she doesn’t like to rely on cue cards and says she “was scared to death.” She went on to win her seventh Emmy for the appearance. Earlier this year, White received a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild. She also appeared in an award-winning Snickers Super Bowl ad; guest starred on the TV shows Community and The Middle, and co-starred in the movie You Again. White also garnered a recurring role on TV Land’s comedy Hot in Cleveland and is currently filming the second season. But that’s not all. She appears in an upcoming Hallmark “Hall of Fame” movie, The Lost Valentine, and has two books coming out: “If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t)” and a photobook of animals from the Los Angeles Zoo. White told AP: “It’s just been a lovely year, I must admit.”

I joined that Facebook group. She’s hilarious, every movie she’s in she manages to add little non-verbal things that aren’t in the script and has me laughing out loud. Good for her, she deserves all the attention she’s getting.

Betty White is another talent we need to appreciate and enjoy while we can. I’m a guy and I can say I used to watch the Golden Girls ALL the time when it was on the air and in re-runs and she deserves all the praise she gets. Her timing is impecable and still makes the world laugh. Also appearing as one of the 10 most fascinating people of 2010 on Barbara Walters special is worth it as well. She is working harder than ever and deserves the award for Entertainer of the Year!
