In a recent interview with Marie Claire UK, Dreamgirls’ Beyoncé Knowles admitted she doesn’t care about being a pop star and, instead, wants to be a major icon. “[There’s a time limit on] being a pop star, yes. Being a legend, an icon, absolutely not. And, at this point, that’s what I’m trying to do,” she told the magazine. “I’m over being a pop star.” Knowles traded in her short dresses and high heels for her latest role as the legendary Etta James in the upcoming Cadillac Records. She reportedly gained 20 pounds for the role—a strategy that has proven to impress Hollywood (a la Renée Zellweger’s rise to A-list status after Bridget Jones’s Diary). “I don’t wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic,” Knowles explains. But, you can’t always get what you want, Miss Knowles—and if 14-year-old boys have anything to say about it, you’ll just be that “hot girl” for a while.
