Blake Lively joins Green Lantern cast

Blake Lively of the hit series Gossip Girl has signed on to play Carol Ferris in Green Lantern, opposite Ryan Reynolds. The project starts filming this month in Louisiana. Also in the cast are Peter Sarsgaard as the villain Hector Hammond, and Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond. The movie tells the story of Hal Jordan (Reynolds), who is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe. Green Lantern opens in theaters June 17, 2011.
