Bollywood stars are arriving in Toronto over the next few days for this weekend’s Indian International Film Academy Awards, which will be held at the Rogers Centre, and their fans are lining up to greet them. Anil Kapoor, one of the stars of the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, arrived Tuesday evening along with Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan, Bobby Deol and Arshad Warsi. Unfortunately, stunning Aishwarya Rai, a superstar among Bollywood actors, will not be attending as she’s expecting her first child. Boman Irani, one of the award shows’ co-hosts, told the Winnipeg Free Press: “There’s going to be a lot of song and dance, a lot of color, a lot of costume, a lot of emotion.” He won over even more fans when he told the Toronto Star: “Canadians are the most polite people on the planet.” Fans have positioned themselves at the Toronto International airport and outside the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, hoping for a glimpse of their favorites, including Shah Rukh Khan (aka King Khan), who will perform at the ceremony.

That’s Shah Rukh Khan. He’s to Bollywood what Brad Pitt is to Hollywood.

I’ve tried to watch Indian films but when they break out in song and dance for no reason I lose it laughing and can’t watch anymore. Good to see it do well though and glad to see it come to T.O. for it’s large fan base here.
