Brad Renfro snubbed at Oscars

Brad RenfroBrad Renfro, who died of a drug overdose January 15 at the age of 25 was snubbed at Sunday’s Academy Awards. He was not included in the montage of filmmakers who have died in the past year, including actors, dancers, makeup artists, agents, directors, stuntmen, etc. Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental prescription drug overdose on January 22nd, was included. A rep for the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences told Us Weekly: “It really was an editing decision, because we can’t fit everyone in. There was no specific reason.” But a friend of the late star of movies such as The Client and Ghost World, told, “It’s unbelievable and disgusting.”

The fact that he was long past his glory days may explain why he was “snubbed”.

I just found out that the reason he was left out of the tribute is because he is not a member of the Academy. The tribute was for Academy members only.

Never was a very good actor, just never won his battle with a very bad drug addiction that cost him his life

I think it’s because he died of a drug overdose why they did not include him. They did not want to tint their image in any way; imagine putting a kid who died of a drug overdose alongside some of the film industry’s greatest contributors, that would be blasphemous!! (lol)

Heath Ledger died of a drug overdose!

Exactly, Nancy. The official version is that he wasn’t a member of the academy.

Whether he wasn’t a member of the Academy or not, he was still an actor, a young actor for that matter who met his fate too early and was never recognized. Hillary Swank said that this year Hollywood lost some actors who were young and just beginning. Renfro was young. RIP Brad!

If they left him out because he took his own life, that is disgusting. If it was because he was not an Academy member, well, I don’t quite know what to think of that. I still think they probably should have included him.

it does not matter what the facts were behind his death, he was snubbed and it was disgusting. how is it fair to show other people in the entertainment world who have passed with one exclusion. they have shown other actors who have died of an overdose before why should brad be the one exception?
rip brad, you were taken too young

I wouldn’t say he was snubbed because he OD’d on drugs. He was snubbed because he was forgettable. Name one thing he ever did that could be considered “Oscar” caliber.

I thought the “official” reason for the omission was because of an editing decision. This reason and the one about not being a member of the Academy sounds like damage control to me. My guess is that someone screwed up and missed adding Brad. Terribe mistake.

yeah, you’re right, he never did anything of oscar caliber. except ghost world, which was, umm, fantastic.

“oscar-caliber” means nothing. the oscars are bullshit.
