Bridesmaids thrown into Malibu teacher abuse case

A California high school teacher appears to have taken the definition of slapstick comedy to a new extreme, citing the 2011 film Bridesmaids in her teacher abuse case. TMZ reports grade 9 student Dionne Evans approached police this week, claiming her teacher repeatedly slapped her in the face after she forgot to bring her notebook to class. Evans said the teacher asked her to go to the front of the classroom, where she then proceeded to slap the student. Afterwards, Evans said her teacher asked the class, “Did you see Bridesmaids?”

The teacher was referencing a scene in the film in which Megan (Melissa McCarthy) literally tries to slap some sense into a depressed Annie (Kristen Wiig). The teacher has reportedly issued a written apology, but that’s not going to cut it for Evans’ family. They’ve hired a lawyer who is now looking at criminal and civil options. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the situation. ~Emily Davies

We don’t know what happened other than this. Probably the little creep had driven her teacher crazy in the past and this was the breaking straw. Kids don’t have any respect these days, and I wonder if it’s because they’re allowed to get away with so much. When I was a kid, we didn’t dream of suing a teacher who hit us. It made us sit up and pay attention and make sure to be respectful to our elders.
