Brittany Murphy, who starred in such moves as Clueless, Uptown Girls and Sin City, died this morning of a heart attack. She was 32 years old. An emergency call came at 8 a.m. from the Los Angeles home she shared with her husband, Simon Monjack. According to TMZ.com, her mother found her unconscious in the shower. Paramedics to the scene tried to revive her, but she was already in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart. A full investigation into Murphy’s death will take place, including an autopsy. ~Alexandra Heilbron

Nancy and I were just talking about this on another article. What a shame, so young, and just before Christmas. I really feel for her family.

  2. Nancy • December 20, 2009 @ 9:41 PM

Me too, Tributegirl. So young for this. I enjoyed the movie ‘Don’t Say a Word’.

    Rest in Peace

    another overmedicated young actor dies.

  5. rey • December 21, 2009 @ 12:47 AM

Owen, I think it’s rather harsh to assume that Brittany Murphy was “over medicated.” For all we know she could have had a pre-existing heart condition, or a number of any medical problems. To assume that she was on drugs or abusing them, with absolutely no proof, is quite disrespectful to her memory.

  6. Beast • December 21, 2009 @ 12:58 AM

I agree with you rey, very disrespectful of you owen.
R.I.P. Brittany, you will be missed by many!

What a sad time for her family….Owen you are out of line with your comment. RIP Brittany

  9. Jo-Anne • December 21, 2009 @ 10:04 AM

very sad news obviously…and hopefully you’re not correct, Owen…but hey, it does happen and that makes it even sadder to know it was preventable…

  10. Queen + the Muppets!=Wow! • December 21, 2009 @ 10:12 AM

So YOUNG!…So SAD! 🙁 Rest in Peace Brittany Murphy.

  11. Johnny • December 21, 2009 @ 2:30 PM

Sad news when someone young passes away whether you knew them or not. From the sounds of it, it could be H1N1 that caused her death…flu like symptoms for days, feeling sick and vomitting. Regardless of the cause its a real shame. RIP.

  12. 4thjet • December 21, 2009 @ 2:32 PM

How sad. She was an excellent actress. I do hope it wasn’t caused by previous use of drugs but then nowadays that always seems to be the case. 🙁

  13. mandee • December 21, 2009 @ 2:45 PM

actually my sister heard on the news that shes had heart problems since she was little and that they already did the toxology report and she had nothing in her system. so yes, it WAS an out of line comment.

  14. Nancy • December 21, 2009 @ 3:00 PM

There’s no way they’ve done the toxicology report this fast. With any luck, they may be finished the autopsy today. Toxicology results take about 6 weeks. I heard as well that she had the flu like symptoms for several days and was vomitting often and that there was vomit present within the bathroom where she was found. She had diabetes and that prescription meds were located within the home with all 3 (Brittany, her husband and her mother) names on them. So, owen could be right even though a bit premature but it sounds to me like she was very sick with the flu (possibly h1n1).

  15. Michael • December 21, 2009 @ 3:18 PM

Funny Mandee, other reports are coming out that she was addicted to Vicodin and that is what caused her death. Apparently she recently had plastic surgery and then became addicted to the drugs. It may also be why her husband is REFUSING an autopsy.

Nevertheless, this should be a time to pay your respects, because she was far too young. Truly sad. RIP.

  16. Johnny • December 21, 2009 @ 4:35 PM

He is refusing an autopsy because he is Jewish and its against his religion to peform an autopsy.

  17. bob • December 21, 2009 @ 5:34 PM

Toxicology reports can be done within a matter of hours, days or weeks. It all depends on the facility doing the report. All I can say is that I don’t car how she died, I’m just sad that she is dead! R.I.P.

  18. Michael • December 21, 2009 @ 5:36 PM

ahh – my bad Johnny. Did not think of that!

Nevertheless, I don’t care if it was drugs, foul play…whatever you can conjure up…it was too early!

  19. Nancy • December 21, 2009 @ 5:51 PM

I have never heard of toxicology results being complete “within a matter of hours” nor days, to be honest. Look at Michael Jackson’s; Heath Ledger’s; Anna Nicole’s.

  20. mandee • December 21, 2009 @ 5:51 PM

Nancy on December 21, 2009 3:00 PM yeah i just read that as well. doesnt mean she od’ed. also, yeah i have no idea, i just know what my sister says she heard “on the news” lol. i was thinking the toxicology report was a bit quick too. (thanks for the proper spelling by the way!)

Michael on December 21, 2009 3:18 PM “Funny Mandee” it actually doesnt seem “Funny” to me at all. and also, i see no reason for the hostility when all i did was say what i was told.

either way, if she was sick from something, or if it is true she died because of a heart problem shes had all of her life or drugs or whatever this is STILL depressing news and i dont see why anyone should be trying to cause any fights on this article.

  21. Jo-Anne • December 21, 2009 @ 6:25 PM

It’s well publicized the autopsy is being performed tomorrow. It’s not so well understood exactly why she died. Time will tell, like everything in these tragedies…

There’s always tons of speculation re celebrity deaths, and substance abuse has unfortunately arisen in a ton of them too. Hopefully this was not the case here.

I can’t relate personally to anyone who wouldn’t consider this a tragedy, however that being said, there were a pile of unkind uncompassionate comments thrown out there on Heath’s death and to expect any different here would be unrealistic. Should it bother you to that extreme, simple solution is stay off sites such as this….

  22. Michael • December 21, 2009 @ 6:26 PM

mandee – the “funny” was sarcastic, einstein. If you read the last part of my comment you might tune into that point. Everyone here is posting hearsay from other sources, so you decided to fight with Owen in the first place dictating what he should or shouldn’t say, then how come no one can seem to pick on your comments? Your “source” clearly is a little weak too, as Nancy pointed out earlier. 🙂

In the end, its a tragic story. I feel bad for her husband and her family…it must be even more rough at this time of year.

  23. M>P • December 21, 2009 @ 6:56 PM

I smell a oscar win. keep the streak alive Celebrity dies + “anymovie”= oscar

  24. Nancy • December 21, 2009 @ 7:14 PM

Thanks for the chuckle, M>P (aka Max Powers)!

Mandee: I just gave my opinion, there was no intent to condemn your sister for her info. and I wasn’t being rude or sarcastic to you in any way (just saying…not that you think I was, LOL). I also hadn’t noticed (unlike some I bet, haha) any spelling error, doesn’t matter. 😛

  25. Jo-Anne • December 21, 2009 @ 7:45 PM

I mean why condemn her sister for her info ONLY when you’ve condemned her for everything else under the sun over the months….pages and pages of inappropriate comments aimed at her….eh, Nance? yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s in the past, my point is how you can fling accusations at someone else for SO MUCH less – typical hypocrisy.

no, spelling errors aren’t your strong point, that’s a given – poor taste comments and repetitive street corner bully lingo is your forte…

  26. Nancy • December 21, 2009 @ 8:05 PM

    Grow up…seriously.

Btw, I really could care less about anyone’s spelling errors, but you, you are the queen of the “get a dictionary”. Always pointing out spelling errors in the articles and the comments here meanwhile, you make about as many spelling errors as anyone else.

So sad that such a beatiful young woman and great atress just starting to get big in hollywood and about to start a family and this happens this very sad but this also shows us that we should not take life granted and the loved ones we have in are life cause things can happen and we just don’t know where or when or how that’s all in god’s hands but one thing is for sure while your still alive in kicking enjoy your life and enjoy your days as if was your last. My spmathy goes out to her husband and famiy what sad tradegy especial right before the xmas holidays my thoughts are with them when they go through this terrible ordeal and Ihope the media or press doesn’t make it any harder for the family when greiving and need there privacy and repect would be really good for them.

  28. mandee • December 21, 2009 @ 10:07 PM

Jo-Anne on December 21, 2009 6:25 PM i have made it “publicly” clear that i do not follow the news except on here, so i only know what my sister told me that she said she herself had heard. i have no idea when the autopsy will be performed or anything else. but, i do however, agree with pretty much your entire comment. i really hope this isnt drug related. it will taint my opinion of her i think.

Michael on December 21, 2009 6:26 PM again, still being petty and childish on an article that is about someones DEATH. also, i wasnt “picking a fight” with anyone. i just dont see why everyone jumps to the conclusions that this death was her own fault. imagine if it was your child they were talking about? seriously, stop being such a jerk and stop trying to fight with me. i clearly knew the “funny” was being sarcastic, but i still think you could have worded it nicer to me.

Nancy on December 21, 2009 7:14 PM i for sure didnt mean you 😀 i know your intentions are good.

  29. Michael • December 21, 2009 @ 11:33 PM

Mandee – ” imagine if it was your child they were talking about?”

Ummm…yea, because clearly im showing disrespect when I said:
“Nevertheless, this should be a time to pay your respects, because she was far too young. Truly sad. RIP.”
    OR….
“In the end, its a tragic story. I feel bad for her husband and her familyit must be even more rough at this time of year.”

    …read much??

  30. MD • December 22, 2009 @ 2:06 AM

This really struck me. I did not expect this. Loved her in ALL her movies, and may her rest in peace.

  31. gypsy • December 22, 2009 @ 10:50 AM

GOD BLESS her family with strength and love.Rest in peace Brittany!!

  32. bob • December 22, 2009 @ 3:04 PM

    Nancy on December 21, 2009 5:51 PM
Like I said it depends on the facility doing the report.

  33. Nancy • December 22, 2009 @ 3:18 PM

    bob on Dec. 22, 2009 3:04 PM

Like I said, toxicology tests are never done BEFORE an autopsy. I don’t believe there is any place that could get the results within a matter of days and definitely not within a matter of hours. All those facilities are backlogged…doesn’t matter WHO you are, your results will take at least 30 days.

  34. Michael • December 22, 2009 @ 4:56 PM

yes exactly Nancy – dont let CSI fool you bob! That show is all lies! lol
Toxicology reports take quite some time! We will have to wait, but unfortunately that still wont change this tragic tale. 🙁

  35. Michael • December 23, 2009 @ 12:55 AM

I get your point, I just think you didnt get mine. Agree to disagree. I still think we both stand that its a sad story, and no matter the cause, she was too young to go.

  36. mandee • December 23, 2009 @ 4:08 AM

    i agree completely.

  37. Nancy • December 23, 2009 @ 11:03 AM

    Way too young.
