Broadway adaptation set for Disney’s Frozen

Disney’s latest animation flick Frozen is going to Broadway, said Walt Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger in a recent interview with Fortune. The Golden Globe winner for Best Animated Feature Film is headed to the Great White Way, although some details are still in the works. “We’re not demanding speed, we’re demanding excellence,” explained Iger. This tale of a princess who goes on a journey to save her sister is the first major success for Disney Animation Studios in almost 20 years. Following a period of box office disappointments, Frozen is currently the no. 1 all-time Disney animation debut, with total earnings of $669 million to date. Frozen beat Despicable Me 2 and The Croods in Sunday’s Golden Globes for the Best Animated Feature Film award, and the blockbuster is expected to beat The Lion King for the title of highest-grossing Disney film of all time. Frozen should make a seamless transition onto the stage — despite still being in the early stages of production, several Broadway veterans have already been cast, according to Variety, including The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad and Idina Menzel of Wicked. ~Yara Matar
